Hon. Rodolfo G. Valencia or RGV is a man of many facets - A national figure - businessman, civic minded, and a gentleman politician.

 

Congressman RGV is a familiar name among developers, realtors, businessmen, property owners, and investors. He took a paradigm shift in 1987 when he decided to join politics armed with the expertise he earned from the corporate world and empowered to represent the province of Oriental Mindoro (1988-1992).  Later, RGV was elected as governor (1992-2001), and again as congressman during the 13th Congress (2004-2007). the 14th Congress (2007-2010) and the 15th Congress (2010-2013). .

 

In Business

 

A community builder, RGV was only 16 years old when he started selling real estate. With the vision to establish his own career he took the broker's exam and landed no. 1 at the early age of 21. He blazed the trail after subsequently hitting the highest mark in the appraiser's exams.

 

His experience in selling multinational subdivisions and projects hit the top when he was barely 24, and at 25 he started developing his first subdivision, followed by so many other projects such as townhomes, condominiums, memorial parks, commercial centers, resorts, and housing.

 

At age 28 RGV became the youngest president of the Manila Board of Realtors, and by the time he was 33 became the youngest president of PAREB or the Phil. Association of Realtors Boards. Soon, he became director in the National Association of Realtors (NAR-USA) representing the Philippines.

 

In 1983, RGV received the TOYM Award in the field of human settlements; and in 1984 was merited the prestigious Anvil Awards as the author of the RGV Pabahay Program, the most outstanding project of the year in the field of housing

 

To date, Valencia, chairman of the RGV Group sits in the board of about 30 various corporations.

 

In Politics

 

Aside from several projects in Metro Manila and the Calabarzon area, RGV continues to augment Oriental Mindoro's development as a tourism haven and the food basket in the Southern Tagalog region.

 

He is best remembered for his crusade against illegal logging. RGV also authored Abot Kaya Pabahay Fund or the Valencia Law to provide housing to low-income families in the Philippines, designed to chart Mindoro's trail towards the realization of Mindoro 2000, a 10-year development program, and founded the Mindoro Kabuhayan Foundation, Inc. which has been awarded as the most outstanding NGO in Region IV by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). It was also conferred the national award for being one of the top five NGOs in the Philippines in 1995 by the Progressive Alliance of Citizens for Democracy (PACD) and DILG.

 

A remarkable improvement in the peace and order situation propelled Oriental Mindoro to the highly-centered reputation as the most peaceful province in Region IV. RGV broke the shipping monopoly and greatly improved the sea transport system in the province.

 

At the House of Representatives, RGV has always been among the consistent top 20 Congressmen; while former Pres. Fidel V. Ramos and Joseph E. Estrada commended him as the Most Outstanding Governor because of his leadership and good governance.

RGV initiated the transfer of power barge at Minolo Cove which has stabilized power from Puerto Galera to Bulalacao and further boost the eco-tourism sector and economic advancement of the province.

 

The award of excellence in Human Resource Management was conferred to him by the Civil Service Commission. While the prestigious Philippine Information Agency cited him as the Most Outstanding Governor.

 

To date RGV sets his sights on agro-food production, development of tourism, promotion of agro-economic zones, alternative energy production, and creation of livelihood opportunities for the province.
